A renaissance portrait by Vin Weathermon captures a moment where you look your absolute best. Vin creates a timeless treasure for you to keep and this immortalized moment is itself experiential.
Chat with Vin
The experience starts with an initial personal interview that covers the client's unique interests, qualities and historical background and helps Vin determine the critical details.
The Creation Session
After information is gathered on the subject's interests, background and overall history, the session is scheduled. On the day of the scheduled session, the Client arrives with hair and make-up ready and dressed in formal or thematic attire. Expect to spend about an hour.
The Reveal Session
After the creation session, we invite you back to view the collection of photographs and choose the final one. Portraits are projected life size and to scale. Once you select your favorite, I and my production artist transform the portrait with painstaking hand-applied brush strokes and oil painted exquisite mastery. Each layer refines the original image to further express the character of the individual or family. Lastly, the portrait is completed with a museum quality gilded frame, certificate of authenticity and optional gallery lighting.
Q: What do you create?
A: Luxurious, life-sized or larger portraits that capture the true essence of the subject, in renaissance style and texture. These portraits fill walls and the exquisite detail will magnetically draw the eyes to the elegant subject and scene. Honestly, if you haven't seen one of Vin's portraits in person, you are missing much of the magic. Photos of the portraits do not do them justice.
Q: Do you make small pictures like 8 x 10's?
A: Yes, but only when a companion to a real portrait will we create a smaller than 20 inch portrait. Vin's portraits are about the quality, tangible heirloom unlike 90% of today's "photographers". Vin's work is meant to go on a wall where it will be treasured, not in a drawer or a disposable Instagram...but Vin will provide those too if you want them.
Q: How do you make them?
A: The initial creation session is where the subject dresses in formal or thematic attire and we capture the initial image. Our team then transforms the image on canvas, creating contours and oil brush details that blend realism with oil painting. We then finish the piece with a museum quality frame, complete with hand-engraved gilded nameplate. The process takes an entire team of people working under the direction of Vin, and nearly two months to complete including framing.
Q: Why Renaissance portraiture?
A: The renaissance style is evocative and classic. Renaissance portraits are the perfect way to showcase what makes a family or individual truly unique, as an heirloom or legacy piece of art. The fine art portraits are created to last more than 100 years with proper care.
Q: Why classic realism as the medium?
A: The late Phillip Stewart Charis inspired me, and much of my work has his influence of “chiaroscuro” for dramatic impact.
Q: Do you do portraiture in other locations?
A: We can accommodate studio portraiture in any location for the right client.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: Obviously these portraits are special, and the months of work to produce the unique art can cost from several thousand to ten thousand depending on the size and framing options. No two pieces are alike due to the variations in hand applied artistry.
